Artisan Contracts Limited was proud to be appointed as the Principal Contractor to deliver the comprehensive refurbishment and all new fit-out of Roadchef’s 31st site – Folkestone Services, completing the project within a 18-week programme and a £1.2 million budget.
Our works included the full rip out construction and fit-out of a new McDonald’s restaurant, featuring customer seating areas, self-ordering kiosks, a drive-thru and fully equipped back-of-house kitchen facilities. We also delivered a new Costa Coffee store with self service kiosks, additional outdoor seating and a drive-thru, a WHSmith retail store with back of house storage areas, a dedicated Gaming On area, and extensive back-of-house facilities including offices and plant rooms.
Managing such an extensive project within a live motorway service environment required careful planning, coordination, and programme management. Through close collaboration with our client, stakeholders, and specialist subcontractors, Artisan Contracts successfully delivered a high-quality project on time, within budget, and to the exacting standards expected by leading national brands.

The new venues on site, operated by Roadchef will be open 24/7, offering round-the-clock access to food, drinks, and shopping for travelers. Boosting the local economy, the opening of McDonald’s, Costa Coffee, and WH Smith will create 80 new jobs in the local area. These roles span various positions, including management and supervisory roles for McDonald’s, Costa, and WH Smith, as well as administrative positions.
